02. Economic and social realities
It is always a great experience to keep ourselves open to consuming media from other cultures. This way, we can experience an expansion in how we see the world and, sometimes, how we perceive our own culture and social context.
Many anime delve into exploring economic and social themes in their storytelling, bringing strong societal critique.
A few examples of anime that provide these perspectives are ‘Paradise Kiss,’ where a group of fashion design students explores social realities related to pursuing dreams and the challenges of entering the workforce; or even ‘Tokyo Magnitude 8.0,’ where a major earthquake affects Japan and the social and economic consequences of the disaster are portrayed, highlighting issues such as survival, cooperation, and government response.
