Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast – Walt Disney Pictures

The fairy tale follows the story of a young woman named Beauty who, out of love for her father, agrees to live in an enchanted castle with a Beast. It has many different origins.

Firstly, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve wrote the first known version, which was published in 1740. Villeneuve’s version is more elaborate and includes additional subplots and characters. It is a lengthy and complex narrative with elements of fantasy and adventure.

Later on, Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont abridged Villeneuve’s tale, creating a simplified version that became more popular and was published in 1756.

In certain versions, the Beast is portrayed as having a more volatile temper, adding a layer of tension and fear to the relationship with Beauty.
