Cinderella
The popular version of ‘Cinderella’ that many are familiar with today is often credited to Charles Perrault. His rendition, titled ‘Cendrillon,’ was first published in 1697 as part of his collection of fairy tales.
Later on, the Brothers Grimm also revised this tale. Their version, titled ‘Aschenputtel,’ shares some similarities with Perrault’s but also includes unique elements. For instance, in the Grimm version, Cinderella’s stepsisters cut off parts of their feet to fit into the golden slipper.
The Disney animated film ‘Cinderella,’ released in 1950, drew inspiration from both Perrault’s and the Grimm brothers’ versions but, of course, with a less scary tone.
