Robin Williams died of Lewy body dementia
Robin Williams’ death came as a shock to his audience. As a comedy actor, Williams brought joy to many people worldwide. However, after being found dead by suicide in his home on August 11, 2014, people learned that they didn’t know as much as they thought about him.
More importantly, people learned that depression and anxiety can affect anyone, and that mental health issues really need to be taken seriously. Williams also suffered from memory loss, paranoia, and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease earlier in 2014. Although his suicide was unquestionable, the family still wanted more answers about what happened to Robin.
The autopsy report, released by the Marin County Sheriff’s office in 2014, revealed that by examining Robin Williams’ brain, he actually suffered from Lewy body dementia and not Parkinson’s disease. Lewy Body Dementia is a progressive brain disorder that affects thinking, behavior, and movement, involving cognitive symptoms that may resemble those of Alzheimer’s disease and hallucinations.
